2.7 - Lie To Me

Buffy sees Angel with Drusilla, meanwhile a guy from Buffy's past pops up in Sunnydale.

What we have here is basically a mythology episode, and I loved it. What could have been so simple and contrived actually does a lot to make me care about these characters. When confronted, Angel spills the beans about Drusilla, telling Buffy everything, so we now know where Dru comes from and how twisted the whole thing is.

Also, the B plot with Ford, Buffy's friend from L. A., is handled with some heart too. He turns out to have more motivation than we initially imagined him to, and in the end, we can almost relate. Almost.

This is a fantastic episode, and the closing bit of dialog that leads into the credits once again proves that Joss Whedon knows how to end a show. He can make you laugh, or he can make you cry, but he most definitely knows how to leave you. And here he directed AND wrote this episode, so his fingerprints are everywhere.

The following bit of dialog that ends the show actually gave me chills.

Buffy: "Does it ever get easy?"

Giles: "You mean life?"

Buffy: "Yeah. Does it get easy?"

Giles: "What do you want me to say?"
Buffy: "Lie to me."

Giles: "Yes, it's terribly simple. The good guys are always stalwart and true, the bad guys are easily distinguished by their pointy horns or black hats, and we always defeat them and save the day. No one ever dies, and everybody lives happily ever after."

*pause*

Buffy: "Liar."

My rating: 9/10

I agree. Great ending sequence. And Ford, what an ass. Good banter between Angel, Xander and Willow too...willow "are you getting a vibe here?" Xander "you mean like vampires, yeah" or something like that.

Cant come with without an invite.” I love it.
Willow and the Angel scene in her bedroom.
Looks so cute in her night-shirt.

“Angel was in your bedroom?”
“Ours in a forbidden love”
that’s comedy. You gotta like the one liners.
Ok that’s weird, they are feeding on the wanna-bes and then they say, stop and they stop and everyone is ok? That’s kinda dumb.
